Five Years of Feathers & Whiskey

By Michael Maynor

As we near the end of April, I want to thank everyone for supporting F & W over the past five years. In 2018, while I was discussing food, hunting, fishing, bourbon, and literature with co-founder and good friend Robbie Perdue, he said the phrase ” Feathers & Whiskey”. I was struck by the combination of those two words and the imagery created. I knew I wanted to do something with that, and a few weeks later, when Robbie informed me he had bought the website domain, I knew it was the start of a journey; We had no idea that five years later, Feathers & Whiskey would be what it is today. I am thankful to have met and worked with many great folks over the years and helped share their stories and experiences with our readers. We have strived from day one for our brand to be as authentic as possible and to share that content on our website that excites us.

The phrase “lifestyle brand”  is often overused a bit these days. Still, Feathers & Whiskey is more than just a website; it’s a lifestyle, and those who read the content on our site, interact with us on our social media, and in person, live the F & W life everyday. It’s feeling the sunrise in a deer stand while awaiting that buck you have on camera; it’s tasting grandma’s homemade biscuits with butter; it’s the excitement you feel when the big trout takes your fly; it’s a pulled pork sandwich wrapped in checkerboard paper from your favorite barbecue joint; it’s all the miles you walked under the African sun in pursuit of your dream buffalo. It’s the bourbon neat or on the rocks at your favorite bar with friends; it’s the smell of a new book as you read on your sofa during a summer storm; it’s the feeling of pride watching your dog retrieve their first bird. It’s the broken-in ball cap you wear on a fall day while cheering on your favorite team; it’s the feel of granddaddy’s shotgun on your shoulder as the covey rises; it’s the drives through the Southland with no destination in mind on a Spring day with the windows down, and it’s the stillness on a Sunday morning when you lower your head to pray.

and thank Him for the life you live. As we look forward to the next five years, we continue our commitment to bring you the very best content from the South and showcase travel and sporting destinations around the globe. Southern Roots + Global Adventure is not just a catchy tagline for us, but like so many of you, it’s in our DNA, and it’s who we are! Thank YOU!

I am a proud native of North Carolina with a deep love for the sporting lifestyle and everything Southern. My book collection seems to grow endlessly, and I have a particular fondness for collecting vintage duck decoys. Despite appearing content, my heart longs to return to Africa for another safari adventure. John 3:16
